The line between insanity and genius is erased

Join the Obsession!

Welcome to my Anime page! I've heard alot of people outthere talking about the fact that they think they can't find anything new to watch. That the new shows they try to watch aren't interesting enough. That they can't find anything new. Well, that's simply madness! There's always something interesting out there that you have never heard of. Here, I'm going to introduce you to the latest, greatest, and most interesting shows you've never heard of. I'll start off with, most likely, shows you have already seen. They will be the first anime shows I was ever introduced to, so I figured you would enjoy the same shows I did (maybe not all of them). They will go from most recently added at top and my earliest shows at the bottom.

Before I start with the shows and their descriptions, I'll let those in on the main knowledge of the obsession. Anime is the common name given to animated shows from Eastern countries, most commonly, Japan, China, and Korea, Japan being the most popular of the three. In other words, Asian cartoons. Most of these shows, however, are so popular because they are quite far from being considered "children's cartoons." I will put a main picture, a brief show description, and a rating to help you decide whether you really want to watch it or not (which will all be based upon the youngest age that should watch and anyone older than that). Either way, hope you enjoy the selections I have to offer!

Anime Shows

BLEACH :: (14+)
Bleach is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tite Kubo that has appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine since August 2001. The manga series has been adapted into an anime television series, two OVAs, three animated feature films, a rock musical, numerous video games, and a collectible card game. Bleach follows the adventures of Ichigo Kurosaki, a high school student with the ability to see ghosts, and a Soul Reaper (a God of Death, or Shinigami, in Japanese) named Rukia Kuchiki. The early parts of the story mainly focus on these two characters. As events unfold, the story begins to delve deeper into the world of the Shinigami. The story opens with the sudden appearance of Rukia Kuchiki in Ichigo Kurosaki's bedroom. She is surprised at his ability to see her, but their conversation is interrupted by the appearance of a Hollow, an evil spirit bound to earth through some unresolved issue. After Rukia is severely injured while trying to protect Ichigo, she intends to transfer half her powers to Ichigo, hoping to give him the oppurtunity to face the Hollow on equal footing. Instead, Ichigo unintentionally absorbs almost all her powers, allowing him to defeat the Hollow with ease. The next day, Rukia appears in Ichigo's classroom as a transfer student. Much to his surprise, she appears to be a normal human. Ichigo having absorbed most her power with his unusually strong spirit energy, Rukia was left stranded on earth until she recovers, so she's transferred to a gigai - artificial human body. In the meantime, Ichigo must take over her job as a Soul Reaper, battling Hollows and guiding lost souls to the Soul Society.

NARUTO :: (12+)

Naruto has become one of the most popular serialized manga and anime series across the globe due to its action-based plot points and continuity that changes the characters unlike most cartoon series. The plot tells the story of Naruto Uzumaki, a loud, hyperactive, unpredictable, adolescent ninja-in-training who constantly searches for recognition and aspires to become a Hokage, the ninja in his village that is acknowledged as the leader and the strongest of all. The first series of the anime adaptation of the manga lasted nine seasons, while Naruto: Shippuden, a sequel of the series, began its first on February 15, 2007 and is still airing. Twelve years before the events at the focus of the series, the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox, Kyuubi, attacked the ninja village Konohagakure. Powerful enough to raise tsunamis and flatten mountains with a swish of one of its tails, it raised chaos and slaughtered many people, until the leader of Konohagakure - the Fourth Hokage - sacrificed his own life to seal the demon inside Naruto when he was a newborn. The Fourth Hokage, who was celebrated as a hero for sealing the demon fox away, wanted Naruto to be respected in a similar light by being the containment vessel for the demon fox. Konohagakure, however, shunned him, regarding Naruto as if he were the demon fox itself and mistreated him throughout most of his childhood. A decree made by the Third Hokage, who reclaimed the position after the Fourth's death, stated that no one was allowed to mention the attack to anyone including their own children. So, being shunned as an outcast, Naruto grew up an orphan without friends, family, or acknowledgment, but still determined to be the best ninja. It is a really cool show to watch, and you're guarenteed to find some character(s) you love in the show, whether it be the main character himself or his main rivals on both good and evil forces. There is a reason it has sold over 71 million copies of its manga in Japan alone.

FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST :: (14+)
Fullmetal Alchemist (Hagane no Renkinjutsushi in Japanese, literally translated to "Alchemist of Steel") commonly abbreviated as FMA or Hagaren, is an ongoing Japanese manga series writted and illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa. The Fullmetal Alchemist world is based in Europe during the Industrial Revolution and in several experience's from the author's life. Set in a fictional universe in which alchemy is one of the most advanced scientific techniques known to man, the story follows Edward and Alphonse Elric, two brothers and alchemists, who want to recover parts of their bodies lost in an attempt to bring their mother back to life through alchemy. The manga is serialized in Square Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine and was adapted into an animated television series and a movie sequel. The manga is still running in Japan, while the anime has been completed and consists of fifty-one episodes and a full-length movie sequel, all of which have been released in English in all English-speaking DVD regions. In addition, there are several spin-off novels, original video animations (OVAs), video games, collectible card games, action figures, soundtracks, and supplementary books that have also been released. This is a much more mature show than the previous shows below as it contains harsher language, blood, violence, and some adult themes (all depending on episode). Whether you're looking for a laugh, cry, or theories on God's existence, Fullmetal Alchemist is the show to watch when wanting to diversify your choices.

YU-GI-OH! :: (8+)
Yu-Gi-Oh has spawned a franchise including multiple anime series, a trading card game, and numerous video games. Most of the incarnations of the franchise involve the card game called Duel Monsters (originally known as Magic & Wizards), wherein each player uses cards in order to defeat one another. The show (all anime, manga, and movies except Yu-Gi-Oh! GX) follows a young boy named Yugi Moto (Yugi Mutou in the Japanese version) a shy, pure-hearted high school student and gamin expert who possesses an ancient Egyptian relic called the Millenium Puzzle, and the Nameless Pharaoh or Dark Yugi (Yami Yugi in the english version), a darker personality held in the Puzzle. Yugi became revered as the "King of Games" (the direct translation of the show's name, Yu-Gi-Oh!) after defeating the head champion Seto Kaiba (main rival), and Maximillion Pegasus in the game of his own creation, Duel Monsters. The most interesting series of this show was the only one unreleased to the United States and several other English speaking countries, known as Yu-Gi-Oh Season/Series 0. This season was never translated and released in English because of its adult-themed content, explicit language, and less focus upon the Duel Monsters game the series normally encircles. This is another show that is very entertaining to watch in order to spot the hidden adult implications while still being a kid's show.

POKEMON :: (6+)
The Pokemon anime series and films are a meta-series of adventures seperate from the canon that most of the Pokemon video games follow. The anime follows the quests of the main character, Ash Ketchum (known as Satosi in Japan), a Pokemon Master in training, as he and a small group of friends travel around the fictitous world of Pokemon along with their Pokemon partners. The entire series bases upon Ash, as well as new comrades he meets and exchanges his group about with, catching, and training Pokemon to do battle with to earn Pokemon Gym Badges in order to become the known World Champion a.k.a. A Pokemon Master. Pokemon are the fictitious creatures that wander the realm. If the Trainer can manage it, the Pokemon can be caught in order to be trained and used in battles. The main character's group is the main focus of the show as well as the trouble and experiences they encounter, the main cause of which being Team Rocket. Team Rocket are the main villains in the show that excel in following the group in order to capture their rare Pokemon. The show may be a bit childish in its ending "moral" set-ups, but the older you are, the more entertaining it seems to be when you realize the hidden implications of adult content in this children's cartoons. That's what makes it a good show to watch when there's nothing else on, and you need to pass the time.
